Treatment – Adult
Bracing is currently chosen as the non-surgical treatment for idiopathic scoliosis. This method is chosen to prevent the curve from progressing as the spine continues to grow. Studies have shown that bracing is effective in preventing the progression of the adolescent scoliotic curves.

A brace is used as part of the treatment plan. Before a brace is adopted, a clinical, x-ray and postural evaluation will take place with your medical practitioner. This is conducted to assess the type and degree of scoliosis, so the correct type of brace can be suggested. All of this information is inserted into the SpineCor Assistant Software, which records the data from all evaluations, and helps by specifying the exact brace fitting for the patient. Evaluation of progress takes place, and all of these variables are used to track the progress and new adjustments that need to be made to the brace.
A SpineCor brace is usually worn for 20 hours a day. This is why a good fit is important, so that the patient can be as comfortable as possible. The brace must be worn while sleeping, and the patient needs to take two 2-hour breaks from the brace at the least active times of their day. Patients are encouraged to wear their brace during all activities, except for swimming and bathing.
Bracing is accompanied with a physiotherapy exercise program, to ensure best results. These are worked out to patient’s specific needs.
